The Shoes
The Frye company is supposedly the oldest shoe manufacturer in the United States. Started in 1863 by John A. Frye, the company was family run till 1945. Traditionally (or historically) Frye specialises in boots – supposedly they were the main suppliers to the US army during WW2 with the ‘Frye Wellington’. But enough of the past, because what we really want to know is; are they still worth your buck today? It’s safe to say that, although Frye might not follow the latest trends and might be clinging to its heritage and tradition in an excessive manner, they have definitely struck an extremely worthwhile balance between price and quality. Using quality leather and craftsmanship, you can see even in this pair that, although the style and finish may be somewhat rugged and outplayed, these will last you a long time.

How to wear
I found it difficult to find an exact style example for this pair of shoes as its a bit of a blend between a loafer and a boat shoe. So I went with another great post from Les Frerès JO’. Though the style example is definitely a lot edgier than the Mason Ties loafer by Frye, it serves its purpose in pointing out a great fact about loafers; they are well suited to a two-tone suit look.  This practice of pairing different coloured pants with a suit jacket has two main benefits.
1. It increases the number of outfits you can potentially put together.
2. It creates a nice balance between dressy and casual.
In the case of these particular loafers, I wouldn't go for anything to flashy or well cut.  The shoes are simple, rugged and slightly old school and should be treated as such. What I do think would go well is rolling up your pants a bit higher than usual, especially with corduroy or chino style pants (think a more rugged fabric rather than crisp or neat).
TipThe beauty of grained leather (as used in these shoes) is that it ages much more naturally. Creases in the leather and minor wear and tear will look natural, thus making these loafers perfect options for the more rugged terrains.
